1. Could an XL Service Body help save with vehicle fuel economy?
Fuel prices today are a major expense regardless of which vehicle you drive, however the XL Service Body fitted to a normal cab chassis can help you save fuel by presenting a minimal frontal area - imagine running down the road with a 2400 x 1200 piece of ply like a sail! It would be quite difficult especially if the ply doubled in size or you tried running faster! A large frontal area increases drag which severely affects fuel economy. Ladder racks and ladders can also affect the drag coefficient, so today you really need to think about the equipment you carry.
2. Will my truck handle better with an XL Body?
The XL Service Body has been designed with a low roll centre – this is the imaginary front to rear axis about which your vehicle rolls when cornering. For example a racing car has a low roll centre - the track is wide and the vehicle height is low. This combination offers great road handling (and good fuel economy) when compared to a higher vehicle or a vehicle with its load mounted a long way above the ground. Imagine two identical vehicles, one loaded with 500kgs on top of the cab, and the other with the 500kgs mounted 95mm above the chassis rails. Which one would go around corners easier and more safely? It’s quite obvious the one with the load closest to the ground will be safer to drive and will “handle” better especially during lane changing and cornering. Many people think handling doesn’t matter for light trucks, and they can be made to handle well by “putting more leaves in the rear springs”, but in reality the same laws of physics apply to a light truck as a Formula One race car.
3. Will my current XL Service Body transfer over to another Cab Chassis?
Yes providing there have been no changes to the chassis. We have many customers that have swapped their bodies to five chassis. Most manufacturers keep the same chassis for around 10 years and change the cabin and or motor etc at each model upgrade. At the moment Holden and Toyota have released new models complete with new generation chassis as well. These are significantly longer and wider than the old ones, so a Service Body (even if we did make them) from a 1998 Rodeo will not fit the current Holden Rodeo cab chassis. The same applies to swapping an old body from one brand chassis to another vehicle make or body type.
4. How do I stop the condensation happening inside my body?
Given the wide & varying climatic conditions across both Australia & Overseas, it is sometimes difficult to predict weather patterns & their effects on all types of equipment. If condensation is found present within your XL Service Body – the plastic plugs located within the corners of each cabinet can be removed allowing for increased ventilation & faster drying.
5. Can I fit an XL Service Body myself?
If you have both the capacity & resources to safely lift the XL Service Body above the ‘Cab Chassis’ vehicle – then yes, fitting of the XL Service Body yourself is possible. If this is something you perceive doing, then simple fitting instructions can be provided, ensuring the correct fitting procedure is followed.
6. Can you repair my XL Body? Do you supply spare parts needed for repairs?
The XL manufacturing plant, again similar to the Ford or Holden vehicle plant, does not partake in the repair of damaged XL Service Bodies. In the event of an unfortunate accident, an experienced & reputable panel-beater is more than capable of repairing both vehicles & XL Service Bodies.
We are more than happy to facilitate the supply of spare parts as long as they are current model& have not been superseded. XL Service Body parts that are no longer available or discontinued can be easily fabricated by a competent sheet metal business.
7. Where can I see an XL Service Body if I am interstate?
XL Service Bodies are built at our Wacol manufacturing plant in Brisbane, Qld, and then distributed across the countryside & overseas via numerous freight companies. Given the tens of thousands of XL Service Bodies on the road, they are never too difficult to locate, just contact XL & we will gladly point you in the right direction to the nearest available Body.
8. Do you have distributors in each state?
Yes XL Service Bodies have agents in all states. Please contact XL for there latest list of State Distributors. These Distributors have sample bodies displayed in their showrooms.
9. What vehicle do you recommend I buy for the XL Body?
XL Service Bodies do not recommend any one type of cab chassis vehicle over another. All Cab Chassis vehicles are very popular when fitting an XL Service Body & given the industry you work within & the tools or type of equipment you may want to carry - all pertain to the vehicle that may best suit your needs.
10. Can I buy my XL Service Body direct from XL or do I have to go through a car dealership?
Either way is possible. The purchase of an XL Service Body can be arranged in numerous ways, all dependant of each individual purchase situation. These situations may include the dealership arranging convenient finance for both the Cab Chassis & XL Service Body as one deal – then again, you may have an existing vehicle that you want to fit an XL Service Body to, having no need for contact with a dealership at all.
XL also has a network of Distributors strategically located nation wide that you may purchase your body through. These Distributors not only supply and fit XL Service Bodies they also specialize in supplying and fitting a complete range of vehicle accessories such as towbars, bullbars, sidesteps, gas bottle holders etc. Buying through your local Distributor reduces vehicle delivery and fitting time and enables you or the Dealer to crunch a deal in one convenient invoice.
11. Is the XL Service Body available in the powder-coat pearl white only?
With the powder-coated pearl white finish providing the ideal background for your company’s sign writing, 99% of XL Service Body customers are delighted with the end result. XL can powdercoat in alternate colours however we do not guarantee that the XL Bodies powdercoat finish will exactly match the vehicles body colour due to the two different coating finishes.
XL’s pearl white powder coating provides the perfect back ground for your company’s logo/sign writing. We recommend you contact your local Sign-Rama Dealer to discuss your requirements.
12. Does the XL Service Body accommodate LPG fitted tanks? Aftermarket fit-out as well?
As long as your Cab Chassis vehicle is supplied by the dealership with ‘Factory fitted’ tanks – all XL Service Bodies are compatible with LPG fuel systems. Aftermarket fit-out of LPG tanks is possible, though would need to be an arrangement between both yourself & a reputable LPG business – external to XL Service Bodies.
13. Is the XL Service Body waterproof?
All XL Service Bodies are waterproof thanks to both the rubber door seals & fully welded seams throughout the Body itself. In time, some adjustment may be required due to the rubber ageing.
14. Can I have a Body just like the one I have seen for Telstra?
The Telstra Bodies you have seen on the road throughout the country are manufactured by XL exclusively for Telstra Telecommunications only, due to their particular applications. These Bodies are not available for open market sale. However, you may sometimes see them released at Government auctions as a second-hand unit.
15. How much load can the Ladder Rack, Work Bench Tail Gate, False Floor carry?
All accessories used within ‘normal working conditions’ are manufactured more than adequately to accommodate all working applications. However due to vehicle limitations XL recommends that a maximum load of 100kgs can be carried on the XL ladder racks. Please note this load must be evenly distributed.
16. Will the XL Service Body fit to an alloy tray or is it chassis mounted?
The XL Service Body is specifically designed with a low ‘Roll Centre.’ This means the Service Body hugs the chassis rails as close as possible allowing for much safer road handling – especially around corners, more even weight distribution & much lower fuel consumption.
There is no requirement for an alloy tray. However we do manufacture a range of toolboxes that will fit nicely to the back of an alloy tray or flatbed truck.
17. Is the cost of an XL Service Body fitted to a 2x4 or a 4x4 similar?
There is no price difference when buying an XL Service Body to suit either a 2x4 or a 4X4 Cab Chassis vehicle. Our only difference is the length of the mudflaps supplied with the body.
